20 years ago Nike shook up the world of skate shoes when they signed their first pro skater and worked with him to release their first signature pro model designed specifically for skateboarding performance. That skater was Paul Rodriguez and his signature model was the P-Rod 1, which forever changed the future of skate shoes and proved they didn’t have to be chunky and could indeed be stylish AND functional.
To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the moment that marked a major step for Nike Skateboarding and catapulted its influence in skate culture, the Nike subdivison is bringing back the the P-Rod 1 in its original White/Black colorway. For the most part, the retro model is nearly identical to the original that hit the scene back in 2005. The white leather upper, the distinctive “PR” embossed heel pattern, and black Swoosh and padded tongue all remain the same. What’s different is the are upper most eyelets are now silver instead of white, and the outsole, once black, is now a clear translucent unit.
Nike isn’t revealing a drop date for the rerelease of the P-Rod 1 just yet, but we’re sure they’ll be hitting retailers in time to get plenty of use out of them during the summer skate season. Stay tuned for further updates.
